Categories of Membership

Member” - Membership in the Society shall be limited to one category and shall include physicians who hold specialty certification in occupational medicine by as designated by The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or certification in occupational medicine as designated by le Collège des Médecins du Québec and whose application for admission as a “Member” has been accepted by the Board of Directors. Only Members have the rights as described in the by-laws including but not limited to the right to vote at the Annual General Meeting.

Associates” of the Society shall be limited to physicians who hold specialty certification as designated by The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in a field other than occupational medicine or certification as designated by le Collège des Médecins du Québec in a field other than occupational medicine and whose application for admission as an “Associate” has been accepted by the Board of Directors. Associates will have the rights and obligations determined by resolution of Board of Directors from time to time.

International Associates” of the Society shall be limited to physicians who hold specialty certification in occupational medicine in a country other than Canada and whose application for admission as an “International Associate” has been accepted by the Board of Directors. International Associates will have the rights and obligations determined by resolution of the Board of Directors from time to time.

Resident Associates” of the Society shall be limited to physicians who are enrolled in an occupational medicine residency training program accredited by The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or le Collège des Médecins du Québec and whose application for admission as a Resident Associate has been accepted by the Board of Directors. Resident Associates will have the rights and obligations determined by resolution of Board of Directors from time to time.

Medical Student Associates” shall be limited to medical students who are enrolled in a Canadian medical school whose programs are accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools and Liaison Committee on Medical Education (CACMS/LCME), or its equivalent acceptable to the Board and whose application for admission as a Medical Student Associate has been attested by a Member in good-standing.  Medical Student Associates will have the rights and obligations determined by resolution of the Board of Directors from time to time

Emeritus Fellows” of the Society shall be limited to physicians who have applied to the Society for Emeritus Fellow status, are retired from active practice, and have been a Member of the Society for at least five (5) years. Emeritus Fellows will have the rights and obligations determined by resolution of the Board of Directors from time to time.

Honorary Fellows” of the Society shall be limited to distinguished individuals recognized for their contribution to occupational medicine. Honorary Fellows shall be exempt from paying annual associate fees and will have the rights and obligations determined by resolution of the Board of Directors from time to time.
